Connections: David McKenna

Today, I introduce you to another one of my mentors:  David McKenna.

Jeannie and I became friends with him and his wife (Janet) when they came to serve as the presidential family at Asbury Theological Seminary in 1982.  From the outset, I respected Dr. McKenna for his leadership skills; only later did I discover “the heartbeat” behind those abilities.  In ways neither of us could have predicted, we became “soul friends” and remain so to this day.

You might want to begin your walk with David McKenna by reading Donald Demaray’s biography With His Joy (Light and Life Press).  I would also commend David’s own books, especially Grace to Lead–Power to Follow…and…The Leader’s Legacy. You will also enjoy and benefit from Journey Through a Bypass (the story of his heart surgery) and Retirement Isn’t For Sissies.

As you become increasingly familiar with David McKenna, you will find that his honesty and wisdom will not only sharpen your mind, but also warm your heart and guide your steps.
