One of the joys of teaching is watching something that has deeply influenced my life have a profound effect on someone else. When it happens, it’s a feeling that says, “this is not going to die with you; it is going to move ahead at least one more generation.”
Over the years, I consider the greatest blessing of teaching to be the passing on of such things to a new generation—things which made their way to me, but did not stop with me.
This is what I think of when I think of a teacher’s legacy. It is the joy that comes to a teaching heart when it has transferred God’s truth to someone else. When “heart speaks to heart” the teaching life has occurred.
